Is a Macbook Pro 13' worth the money?
So for my new college I want to buy a new laptop because my current ASUS is absolute ****. It's slow, overheats fast, freezes too many damn times. I'm sick of it all so I'm willing to spend a bit of coins on a GOOD laptop. I want a laptop that does not overheat, is fast as hell and doesn't freeze every damn time you open multiple tabs.
So I'm hearing a lot of positive things about the Macbook Pro. It apparently has a long battery-duration, barely overheats, is very fast, doesn't freeze often and never has any viruses. But I also hear a lot of negative things from other people saying it's not worth the money. Some people also say there's a new Macbook Pro coming out in September and they suggest me to wait for that.
What do y'all say? I know I can always trust my good sistrens at ATRL, so should I go for one, or not?

Yes, except that battery ******** is a lie.
Otherwise it NEVER overheats, NEVER gets viruses, and rarely freezes even when tons of tabs are open.

I've had a macbook pro since 2007 and an imac since 2010 and I can attest that they still work very well and I haven't gotten a single virus or crash or overheating (though it can get a bit hot at the bottom if you're using up a lot of the processor capacity). That doesn't mean any of these won't happen to you, no one can guarantee that, but I can assure you that they are incredibly stable compared to windows 7 (which I also use through bootcamp) and have a very long life.
That being said, if you intend to just use it for casual purposes like using the internet, playing music, writing papers, I would just go with a regular macbook. You don't need all the bells and whistles and extra processing ability of the pro unless you're doing some photo/video/music editing/production. The regular macbook is relatively cheaper and will suffice for most purposes.

Mine overheats and the battery life is 3-4 hours. I've had it for a year & 6 months though and it's never slow, I don't have/need any antivirus downloaded on it, and there's literally no maintenance. For what I do, it's perfect. Never going back to Windows.

I've had my Macbook Pro for nearly 4 years now and apart from the battery life it still runs perfectly, which is why I've never bothered to upgrade it.
I can't imagine ever going back to Windows.

Is the "no viruses" argument still a thing? Anyone of this generation who gets a virus doesn't deserve a computer tbh.

Absolutely. I have the 15" RMBP and used to have the 15" MBP. It's superior to Windows laptops in almost every way. Amazing build quality, OS X is awesome, and everything feels more fluid. Plus you can always install Windows via Boot Camp if you want both OS's.
But if you really want good battery life, go with the new 13" MacBook Air. It can literally last you all day thanks to the new Haswell processors, up to 12 hours (real world tests from tech blogs gave similar results, sometimes longer life). You can get it for as low as $1050 with the Education Discount, along with a $100 Mac App Store/iOS App Store/iTunes gift card for you to buy programs for it, or just for music lol.
Or if you want more power, you could get the 13" RMBP for as low as $1400. This of course includes the amazing Retina screen, SSD, 8GB RAM, etc.
Here's the education pricing page http://store.apple.com/us-hed/browse...back_to_school
Just to note, Apple's pricing isn't THAT bad. Yeah, you can get a Windows laptop for $400, but that isn't a fair comparison. Windows ultrabooks go for $1000 upward, so they're pretty fair with pricing for what you get.

I've had my MBP 13'' for a few months now and I love it. It's fast, accessible, and just really competent all around. Mine's battery lasts around 5 hours, which is pretty great, and haven't got any type of virus so far.
The only negative things about it are the somewhat weak graphics card and the low resolution. Getting a 15 inch MBP would fix that, but if those aren't really a concern, then go for it. It's still a great buy all around.

It's worth your money 100%.
I got mine last winter and it's flawless. I never experience any problems with it, no matter how many apps or tabs I have open. Battery lasts about 5 hours per cycle and it never really overheats. And when it does get warm, the fan is super quiet and you don't even notice it. It's easy to use and looks stylish. You won't regret it.

Yes, definitely worth it. Make sure you get one with a SSD because it will run 3x faster if you add it to your MacBook.
I purchased my Macbook Pro this month after a long history of window laptops (Lenovo, HP, Dell, etc) and it honestly just ***** on all of the old laptops I've had in the past. It's perfect for me because Photoshop can run so smoothly with barely any problems and the integration with other iOS devices is simple and flawless. There's a lot of shortcuts and conveniences that makes the whole user experience a lot more enjoyable than a regular window laptop (e.g. dragging photos to the photoshop icon in the dock and opening it up).
Not to mention that iTunes is actually a decent program on mac osx because it was created natively on mac software. The only downside is that you can't really play any games on it but the support for mac gaming is on the rise. You can already play a good amount of games (Bastion, Age of Empires, and so on) if you download Steam.
I haven't run into any overheating issues yet, it can get a little bit hot but nothing worrisome.
Just get it, definitely worth the money. Especially with the education discount.

Absolutely. Three years in and it's still pretty great. Most of my PC friends have had to replace theirs by now.

What kind of Macbook Pro should I consider buying? I only want a 13' though with no retina or whatever.
Also, what's the difference between Pro and Air?
