Westerns rarely do well overseas. Remember, the rest of the world hates America,
so they're not a big fan of westerns since they're a big slice of Americana.

Yes, it definitely would have. "John Carter's" title was definitely a big part of its failure. WHAT is the movie about? WHO are they marketing to? *I* didn't know anything about "A Princess Of Mars." I went to theaters to see "John Carter" because a friend wanted to see it, so I tagged along. I was 100% confused when it turned out to be a western... that turned into a Mars epic. What in the WORLD? And the name of the film was "John Carter?" I ended up enjoying the movie, but they had no idea how to market it, because even after seeing previews, I still had no idea what the movie was... and that was a problem a lot of consumers had. It's like going to see "Jack Reacher" and it turned out to be "Avatar." A title can make all the difference. A person's name as a title is the WORST type of movie title a studio could possible have.
