Discussion: Is Disney going through another Renaissance?

So? What do you think?

Obviously, 90s Disney will always be the best Disney will ever create for now, but what do you think of the current decade's creations?

- The Princess and the Frog $104,400,899 (2009)
- Tangled $200,821,936 (2010)
- Winnie The Pooh $26,692,846 (2011)
- Wreck-It Ralph $189,422,889 (2012)

The new generation of Disney movie is pushing the boundaries of story-telling and animation, and finding its way into the hearts of the next generation of children and their parents through characters who are working hard to change the lives they're in. From a hard-working Louisiana waitress to an isolated Rapunzel dreaming of the world outside her tower to a popular video game antagonist who wants to prove that he isn't such a bad guy, so far Disney's been right on the nose, very much similar to they're iconic 90s wave. Does this mean they're in the initial period of a new Renaissance? Discuss!

Upcoming movies to anticipate and inquire on are this year's 'Frozen' and 'Planes,' and next year's first Disney-Marvel collaboration 'Big Hero 6.'

Wreck It Ralph was amazing. Modern, but with the touches that make it a resonating and impactful film, regardless of your age or interest in video games. While Brave was a disappointment for me, I hope they continue down this road with their upcoming stuff (I'm here for Frozen).

Loved wreck it ralph and tangled. I was so in love with them going back to hand drawn for princess and the frog but the story ultimately wasnt as great as what I expected.

i agree a bit with Brave, however that was a Pixar movie. we're talking about Disney movies, though still let's hope Pixar improves their story-telling for the next films.

It was Disney-Pixar. Merida is actually now counted as one of the Disney princesses.

Don't forget the Star Wars franchise. I'm not even into Star Wars, but there's going to be a knew animated tv series called Star Wars Rebels coming out in 2014, and Greg Weisman (Gargoyles, Spectacular Spiderman, Young Justice) has signed on to exec produce, so the writing should be very good.

i'm actually excited for all the Star Wars stuff, but i don't think it counts for the Renaissance unless they make any animated features concerning it. but that tv series you mentioned tho

Planes will completely obliterate any hope of this. That movie looks beyond terrible. Wreck It Ralph and Tangled were cute though.

Disney is actually what is ruining Pixar, IMO. Disney is the company forcing all of these sequels (because they know people will go to see them.) So, I vote no.

Of course no one will agree with this but none of those four movies made any significant impact whatsoever.
The 90s movies were talked about for years after their release, there's a reason it was called "The Renaissance".

Tangled and Wreck it Ralph were incredible and probably my favourite Disney movies since either Lilo and Stitch or Mulan. However, no. They just haven't had as much impact.

In a way I think so, I'm just glad they're done trying to appeal to boys so much like with treasure planet and Atlantis

Enchanted is the Oliver and Company, the successful test run
The Princess and the Frog is The Little Mermaid, the return to form for Disney
Tangled is the Beauty and the beast, the next level stunning visual masterpiece

Wreck it Ralph is the Aladdin, the quirky funny amazing one

Planes is the Rescuers from down under, the forgotten sequel mess

Holy crap the Disney Renaissance really was quite iconic. I didn't even realize they had a good long string of quality films, and I watched all of them except the first two.

YES!! Bolt is the new Oliver & Compony. The return to success, but sadly, overlooked because of the big films that followed (Mermaid, and TP&TF), While Winnie The Pooh is the Rescuers: Down Under. Always overlooked becuase of the little success both had AND both are sequels to classics. There are so many similiarities!

Oh but you shouldn't include Planes in the OP. It's NOT a WDAS film! It's a Toon Disney filmmand will NOT count towards the Animated Classics Canon.
