Treasure is the third studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins. It was released on 1 November 1984, through record label 4AD. With this album, the band settled on what would, from then on, be their primary lineup: vocalist Elizabeth Fraser, guitarist Robin Guthrie and bass guitarist Simon Raymonde. This new line-up also coincided with the development of the ethereal sound associated with the band's music.
I'm really shocked by how many votes this album got! Most of them were in the lower section but still, it's a fantastic album with great vocals.
Nightclubbing is the fifth studio album by Grace Jones, released in 1981. It was the second album of her Compass Point trilogy, and has become her best-selling studio release, spawning hits "Pull Up to the Bumper" and "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)".
Another one of my albums! This is a spectacular new wave/dance album and has a real nice dark edge. Though I guess I'm kinda confused as to why Pull Up to the Bumper wasn't the pick....
Like a Virgin is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, released on November 12, 1984 by Sire Records. It was re-released in several territories outside of North America in 1985, with the inclusion of the bonus track "Into the Groove". The album was produced by Nile Rodgers, and recorded at Power Station Studio in New York at a quick pace. Rodgers enlisted the help of his former Chic band mates Bernard Edwards, who was the bassist, and Tony Thompson, who played drums; they appeared on several tracks of the album. Rodgers decided to be the guitarist, when Edwards requested him to do so, in exchange of their help. Jason Corsaro, the record's audio engineer, persuaded Rodgers to use digital recording, a new technique introduced at that time. The cover sleeve and images were shot by Steven Meisel. Madonna wanted the album title and the cover image to make provocative link between her own religious name Madonna, as the Roman Catholic title for Jesus' mother Mary, and the Christian concept of the virgin birth.
And here goes the first album from a major ATRL star of the 80s. It's obvious almost everybody agreed that the other 3 are superior, so it's no surprise this album got kind of left in the dust, though the re-release does have her best single on it.
Paid in Full is credited as a benchmark album of golden age hip hop. Rakim's rapping, which pioneered the use of internal rhymes in hip hop, set a higher standard of lyricism in the genre and served as a template for future rappers. The album's heavy sampling by Eric B. became influential in hip hop production. The record has sold over a million copies and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it platinum in 1995. In 2003, the album was ranked number 228 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
This is probably the most important hip-hop album of all time, or certainly it's up there. It basically features a new way to rap and was way ahead of its time. Glad it made it so far.
Daydream Nation is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth. It was recorded between July and August 1988 at Greene St. Recording, New York City, and released in October 1988, through Enigma Records.
Their first official double album, and their last before signing to a major label, Daydream Nation was a critical success that earned Sonic Youth substantial acclaim and a major label deal. The album was ranked high in critics' year-end albums lists for 1988 and was voted second on The Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop poll. Several promotional singles were released from the album, the first being "Teen Age Riot", which charted on Billboard's newly created Modern Rock Tracks chart at number 20.
This is one of those albums that I've heard a lot about but never listened. My mom likes them a lot I think.
