it's pretty qt. I've probs done over 40+ hours. I haven't felt the need to ever to go an area and grind. Generally when ur trying to catch a certain familiar, due to the randomness and low catch rates, u'll wind up doing ur grinding while trying to catch that familiar or doing the side quests, so naturally when i decide it is time to get back to the main plot i am already levelled up enough (and with the enemies runnin away on the world map, u never get too levelled up that the next area is easy)
Like most RPGs, it'll probably take a while to get into, and u'll probably hate the AI that controls ur party members (they eat through their MP like nothing normal)
There should still be a demo for it on PSN if ur not willin to fully commit
