A small North Carolina town's Fourth of July parade was mired in controversy after a float touting "White History Month" drew a number of complaints from parade attendees.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Saturday that Hope Mills, N.C. parade included a float attached to a John Deere tractor, driven by local farmer Donnie Spell. The float included a large wagon filled with watermelons, and featured a sign that read "White History Month. Hug WTE PPL." A Confederate flag was also attached to the tractor.

"This should be over, all that stuff should be over," Hope Mills resident Suzanne Singletary told ABC11. "I don't understand why people are still living like this."

Racism still alive and well I see

We just had the racism thread a few days ago. Do we really need to go through this again?

I'm not trolling. I'm not trying to sound racist. I'm just saying that black people in general can't be mad when white people want 'their own thing.' They should be allowed to have a float if they want. If black people have a problem with that, then they shouldn't have black history month, plain and simple

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. If it were up to me, we wouldn't have any 'special months' and we would all just be equal on an every-day base. There's simply no need for it when we can simply embrace each others cultures each day.

Black History Month wasn't made to degrade another race or prove how superior they are to another. It's ONE month out of the year to recognize the accomplishments of black people, since majority of the time their accomplishments aren't properly recognized by a larger group of people. If these accomplishments were mentioned more often, there would be no need for a Black History Month. It's not going anywhere. Deal with it.

That little "thing" the other ones do is to celebrate how "superior" they are as a majority. Big difference.

White people have had their own thing since time began. Tbh, Black History Month really isn't even our own month, it's the same as all the others in reality. We'll be equal when racial-profiling stops, when we're able to be apart of society and not be seen as the lessor race. Our history is important for a reason. They don't need a month when they have everything, everyday. What "history" that's positive would be celebrated if there were a "White History month"? What obstacles and hardships have they been faced with that they've overcome?

Black History along with gay pride and feminism exist because of oppression. We don't need a White History month, or straight pride, or masculinism because whites have never been oppressed for being white, straights have never been oppressed for being straight, and men have never been oppressed for being men.
