idk, I also don't find Epic that good. I mean OWA/Ciara era started off awfully and if BP didn't took off, we still would have been waiting. Avril Lavigne's current era also have been handled poorly so far, the first single also didn't took off.
There is just soemthing wrong with most managements and labels in general. Especially with stars who had underperforming era's. For some reason labels think that they still have some big enough following to first set off a single on it's own, and months later they realise they have to put some kind of effort in an era and then it all turns into a long rollercoaster. Ciara is mainly just lucky at the moment in comparison to Kelly. But it has less to do with the label or team itself.
