French artist Orlan is suing Lady Gaga and the French subsidiary of Universal Music
for plagiarism in a Paris court. In the lawsuit, the artist accuses the singer of stealing from her to construct the visual universe of her third album,“Born This Way.” According to Le Quotidien de l’Art, which broke the story, Orlan is demanding $31.7 million or 7.5 percent of the profits from the album and video.
In June 2011, she was sued by U.S. consumer attorneys 1-800-Law-Firm for profiting from the sale of $3.99 'We Pray for Japan' bracelets.
However the star’s spokeswoman Holly Shakoor said the lawsuit was frivolous.
She said: 'This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.
'The entire five dollar donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief.
'Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster.'
A vocalist called Rebecca Fancescatti is claiming her hit song Judas is a rip-off of her own 1999 tune Juda.
