SIR Elton John has slammed the TV show The Voice for creating "nonentities".
The superstar said the program was more about the judges than the talent.
"The Voice is all about watching the judges, it is in America," John told BBC Radio. "Nobody on The Voice in America has had a hit record. Nobody on The Voice in England has had a hit record - they're nonentities."
Elton also claimed the programs can cause danger in fast-tracking fame.
"Television and video have done a lot of damage to music. They've propelled people into stardom that aren't ready for it and it can't sustain it."
It wasn't always this way. I remember AI winners used to consistently become stars. It just became over saturated. People watch it for the enjoyment of the show but aren't actually invested in the winners. The network should have an A promo team to make sure these winners have a shot though.
The difference is that AI and The XFactor are backed up by huge labels and huge producers who can set up easy sessions. The Voice always felt kinda backburner if we talk about talent because it missed that piece. I like the concept of The Voice better than both XFactor and AI and I wish it also had that big back-up that the other shows have.
Ofcourse judges have been the focus the last years, because it is more of a career revival tool than an actual; platform for talent. I only don't agree that video and television have pushed people to stardom that aren't ready. It is the musicbusiness that has put focus on the word "business" that has done the damage. It all is one big machine that has to produce as much money as possible, while music it's pure form is and always has been "art" and that is dissapearing in certain areas more and more and the "fasfood"culture of music is beginning to push certain templates for artists forth, while they don't alweays include artists with "full packages" anymore, but rather easy marketable "puppets".
The show never says your going to get a career, it just gives you a record contract like anyone else who is trying to get a record contract. Not everyone who gets a record contract makes it in the real world and not everyone who makes it on these show makes it.
