I was thinking the same thing that was already mentioned. This could get messy.
Samsung bought a million, but like what was already brought up, if only 600,000 people download it then it shouldnt count as a platinum album.
I have no issues with Jay-Z, but I'm thinking that opens the door for artists to sell them selves to a company as long as they buy up their album. What's stopping an artist from going to an even bigger company than samsung and agreeing to do promo for them for a certain amount of years and in return that company buys 2 million copies of an album to distribute "freely" with whatever product. Now that artist is praised as the first artist to sell 2 million albums in a week ever.
I understand technically they're paid for, but I'm sure you understand how messy this could get.
