After opening three weeks ago to a strong $42,879 on 5 screens, The Bling Ring has failed to capture the interest of general audiences. Last week its PTA sagged to a puny $3,080 and this weekend its gross collapsed by 58%.
The film, which cost $20M before marketing and was predicted to be one of the year's breakout indie successes,
failed to impress critics and has grossed a
weak $4.3M. It won't be seeing $10M total.
Next week it will likely shed most of its screens to make room for the big Fourth of July releases.
Unfortunately, this is another misfire for Sophia Coppola.
