No I don't because rape is never justified, they should just be killed imo because the world needs less sentient crap like that.
Fireman - exactly what type of reasoning is that? Of course those idiots shouldn't have laughed but that's hardly cause, reason or provocation for two people to go back and take a shotgun and shoot something 7 times. Saying that the two women caused that doesn't make any sense, they caused it themselves for trespassing and the animal was protect its territory and/or itself, they should have taken it up with those that laughed at them. By your reasoning the women caused the embarassment hence the ostrich got shot, how does it make sense to go and victimise something that was unrelated to the embarassment. They were too thick to put two and two together and tell the women it wasn't funny, the women were too thick to realise not to laugh and they were all too thick to realise they shouldn't have drunk so much and gone on to private property. By your reasoning you've said that is someone laughs at someone it causes the person laughed at to take it out on something else and places less blame on them for doing so because they were laughed at which is ridiculous. The women didn't force them or give them an ultimatum to go back and destroy that animal like they did. Yes they need to learn manners and they shouldn't have laughed but they are not responsible for those men then going off and taking out their pathetic egos on the ostrich. Unfortunately, people are stupid enough for this kind of thing to happen a lot (like the pieces of **** who butchered a stingray after Steve Irwin was killed), but it doesn't make them less responsible for their own actions, they acted out of proportion and to the wrong party. The women had an effect on them but not in the area they acted out in, if the women put the men p to killing the creature then they are to blame as well, otherwise it was then men's own idea and course of action.
If you honestly think the bird would have been alive or left alone if the women hadn't of laughed, imagine how those men and people like them would react in everyday situations when something similar happens, the amount of people/creatures they would hurt, you shouldn't have to put up with people unfairly laughing at you it's true but you don't act out on innocent parties. Male pride or pride is no excuse. It would be the same the other way round; if the women got kicked by the ostrich, the men laughed, the women went back and killed the ostrich, would the men be to blame and would the women's actions be more tolerable or less to blame because of 'Female pride' and them 'being women' (like you said about the men 'being guys')? No, the men would be to blame for laughing but not for killing or causing the ostrich to be killed, those are two separate things.
Anyway, in regards to the punishment it's another example of how the courts care very little about animal welfare and they care even less about animals who we like to fool ourselves into thinking are a part of our food chain.
