The music quality declined rapidly (aside from Paparazzi, Flower Power, Animal, Reflection) which played a large role tbh. The album had the inflated effect of being from the top hallyu act in japan etc but the longevity was there because of the word of mouth effect due to the quality.

Then you have to remember that the digital market is dead in Japan and then they were releasing re-releases like Oh.

Last but most importantly, SM will not let them start promoting like a J-idol group and as their preferred option of promotion (a few big performances on big shows) can't happen anymore, they are going to flop.

The only room for inflation is the sales of Genie and Gee there though and given that Gee was the best selling song of the decade on Melon and Genie's high charting on yearly charts in 2009, it is safe to say that genie sold at least 3million and Gee, 4 million which means that the overall sales have been inflated by a possible 2.5%. Although, I have been looking up Gee's sales everywhere and I am generally seeing a figure of 4.5 million floating around which is probably the most accurate value. With that in mind, there is general inflation of 1.9% but given that sm has been making them promote those songs for years, I would say that although not officiated, they have probably sold the numbers given. Aside from that, the rest are accurate.

Edit. I looked at the figures again and think that the The Boys album is about 30,000+ too high as the sales for japan, the japanese liscenced version is 100k+ at the start of 2012 so the korean import is probably counted twice but unlike with IGAB, it was released quickly after the korean version so the inflation will be considerably smaller.

Bleh. Overall though, they have probably sold 50million if you consider there are no digital sales bar singles before the boys. Therefore, inflation is irrelevant as they have sold more than the final total there anyway.

Digital sales have died. I do believe that in 2012, only one song had a 250k certification.

If you take purely physical,

Genie - 155k - good
Gee - 205k - good
Mr Taxi - 175k - good
Paparazzi - 135k - was on track to sell as much as Mr Taxi despite only 3 performance. A few weeks after, the anti-korean sentiment picked up again in a big way

It should be noted that all of these singles were performed on Music Station, the largest music show in Japan at least twice (bar Paparazzi once)

Oh - 85k - a 3 year old re-release which had a fair bit of promo on minor shows. This was also released the same day as a dvd collection of all their korean and japanese music videos in multiple editions as well as the Sone Japan website. Subscription was $100 ish and the normal edition of the dvd collection was $90.

Flower Power - 40k - this was promoted once on a day time talk show and was a limited release single. It was telling out in some stores initially and then sales died mid-week and then picked up again near the end and then was not restocked after the first week. This was also released the week before the album, hence the limited release.

L&G - 40k. No televised promotion (performance or interview) and one event for fans in Universal Studio Japan costing $60 for entry. Those stupid enough to go probably bought the cd already and then the general public itself, SNSD's biggest buyers had no idea it was released. Lets not forget the song is god awful

P.S. digital sales were probably included with physical as digital sales as digital sales are basically any price between $2-$20, not a $0.03 download like in korea

I calculated it once. It is like 46,000,000 but essentially 1% of that was not sales worth $0.03 or less each

No sweetheart, it's not safe to say that, those sales are CLEARLY inflated and the real ones are probably something like 3M for Gee and close to 2M, probably something like 1.8M, for Genie.

i never said i got all the numbers by myself, i had various sources with all the numbers like some comments here on atrl from the k-pop thread, one hallyu..etc, and i re- checked them by myself to see if they're true, some sales were already known and i found some sales that agree with the op, i didn't add or compile anything by myself

Don't worry sis, most of the info listed is correct (actually the only mistakes i see are the Gee/Genie digital numbers), and even if you remove the Gee/Genie fake digital sales they still slaying
