HIV cures leukemia* not all kinds of cancer. Leukemia is the overgrowth of white blood cells and the HIV virus kills white blood cells so they counter each other.

Just like,if a patiant wants to have the bone marrow transplantation,he/she must undergo a process where his/her immune system will be totally destroyed first.
Apparently they use inactivated (not able to cause disease) HIV as a transporter to carry a message into the T cells to get them to attack the leukemia cells. So it doesn't actually cause HIV. Unless I'm understanding it wrong.
No she doesn't have HIV. They genetically modified the virus by taking out the viral, reproductive activity and just keeping the WBC-specific destructive activity.
