Doesn't it mean something like a leader/queen/king? Or is it like a name?

Yeah, like "Highness" or Queen, the female equivalent of Khal, which is used to refer to the male ruler of the Dothraki people. Khaleesi kind of gave me Arab teas like Khadija (remember Queen Latifah's character from Living Single?) or Khalilah, but no, George Martin made up those names (Khal and Khaleesi) for people in his books.
This kind of has me wondering whether or not there are kids of Trekkies walking around with Klingon names.
From a sociological standpoint, naming your kid Khalessi as opposed to Daenerys could have adverse consequences. Daenerys sounds and looks like Demaris, so it's kind of innocuous, but those who aren't vaguely familiar with certain Arab names (Khadijah, Khalilah), the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, or the tv show might assume that Khalessi is a black sounding name. Black sounding names are often discriminated against in the US.
