I think GaGa gets credit for 'bringing back dance music' is because she became a huge star of making dance/electropop where as other acts that were moving from R&B and Pop to a dance/electropop direction were already established artists. Not to mention, while some of the hits mentioned in this thread were big, they fade in comparison to the hit Poker Face was in 2009. Of course GaGa wasn't solely responsible for making dancepop huge, I like to think she played a big part it, probably together with BEP's I Gotta Feeling. I mean just look at the popularity of RedOne and David Guetta after those songs.

Stargate have said they see themselves as R&B. They come from Europe (where R&B doesn't really exist) so they started off doing pop to survive, but once they migrated to the USA, they were able to be more true to themselves. But I think it's that pop background which allowed them to adapt to the dance sound and survive, while the other big R&B producers of that time like Polow, The Neptunes, Scott Storch, Jermaine Dupri, etc all got wiped out
