9 out of the top 10 songs on iTunes main chart (popular = pop) have real instruments in them so I dont know what you're talking about. Dr luke is an extremely talented guitar player and it's featured in almost all of his tracks. He's probably one of the most played pop producers. he's also using a lot of live drum work layered with synth drums. Greg Kurstin uses a bunch of live stuff whether drums or bass or guitar. There's a lot more live instrumentation going on than strictly synth based stuff.

WOAH! Wait a second.. CURRENT POP MUSIC PRODUCERS maybe lazy, but sure as hell most EDM producers create the most unique, complex tracks ever created!! I mean look at this FL Studio project file from Madeon:

I know it takes ALOT for me to even make a track sound perfect.. Most of the time it takes weeks before we get a song perfect.. So it all depends on the genre..

+1 .. It takes ALOT to even make a synth.. Just finding the right sound, editing the LFO's, editing the effects, editing the MIDI's, and so much more.. Synths are alot more involved than you think..

I feel that producing electronic music is much more difficult and complex than making a song using real instruments. The amount of time and effort that goes into making some of these songs is unbelievable. Sure there are your formulaic pop songs that don't take much effort, but many electronic producers spend hundreds of hours tweaking and perfecting just a few seconds of sound in a song.

As someone who makes beats myself (and most of my beats are all synths), I can say that using synths can take just as much work as recording a real instrument, if not more. With synths you can make absolutely any sound you want, so I understand why some people don't bother with real instruments anymore.

However, I agree there are some famous producers today that are lazy. RedOne in particular. I'm not very good, but I could've made all his songs. He doesn't try anything creative. He's one of those that uses synths as a shortcut. He uses the same ones in every single song.

But I think the production in 2013 chart hits has been pretty good compared to a few years ago.

I used FL Studio too. There's a lot of other producers that use it, like Alex Da Kid, Skrillex, Boi-1da, etc.

There was one of T-Pains hits from about 5 or 6 years ago that famously was built around an FL Studio pre-set. And occasionally a stumble across a pre-set that I recognize from a pop song. That's why I hate RedOne so much, it seems that's all he uses...

I mainly make hip hop beats, and I sometimes spend like an hour trying to get the right sound I want from a synth. There's millions of possibilities, it sometimes gets quite frustrating when you're almost at the sound you imagine in your head, but you can't quite get it perfect.

That Madeon file is more complicated than it looks. A lot of those are just automation clips for example. Like there's many rows that are devoted to just one particular synth. There's the row with the melody, and the rest are ones that vary the modulation, panning, volume, etc. with time.

It's called people don't care for talent anymore...and yes I agree it is lazy..but I think its wrong they are making money on 80s or 90s even 2002 songs samples and rapping or bad singing over it.

but ay people buy it so......

don't care that much for it anymore since nothing it gonna change its going to get worse.

I use FL Studio as well.. Using synths is so involved.. First of all making a synth, then having to master as well is crazy!!

I feel like music is changing, not becoming lazier. Synths may be more common practice, but I don't think that doesn't make it "real". I mean, instruments and computers were both human inventions

they are just as real or fake as each other.

all I was trying to say is that music producers are less expeienced cuz all they need to know about is how to operate a synthetizer and that's about it.

I agree. I've seen my friends who produce stuff use FL before, and it literally takes hours just to get a 10 second loop right.
Not to mention the correct timing, layering, arranging, mastering. Etc
