How Britney's 07 Performance At The VMAS Was Supposed To Go
Quote:
If magic man Criss Angel had his way, Britney Spears‘ 2007 VMAs Performance would have turned out much, much, much differently.
The L.A. Times recently spoke with the 40-year-old magician to hear his original ideas for Britney’s VMAs performance. Here’s what he said:
“With Britney I presented concepts to create, within her performance, illusions that would happen in the open. You would see Britney and then she would split into two Britneys and then four Britneys with no boxes or covers. It would just be a visual effect using no screens. People in the past have used the art of magic in music performances but mostly in a cheesy way. Magic has not kept up with popular culture and technology.
“Other things I wanted to do with her was to literally transform her into birds and then for her to reappear in the audience. I also thought of having her levitate over the audience. It was going to be really visual moments that were all epic tableaux that were beautiful, artistic, elegant and, most important, unique — things MTV hasn’t seen in music. I wanted to captivate people in the moment. That was the essence of what I wanted to do with the Britney performance, because I think the performance she did with the snake was a highlight of her career and I wanted to trump that and I thought we had it.”
So, what happened?
“Britney is really strong with her own ideas. And what I had planned wasn’t an easy thing to do and would have required a lot of rehearsals. Ultimately, I told her I needed 100% commitment or I wasn’t going to be able to do this. I told her that, ‘You have to feel comfortable.’ So, we explored it and she decided it wasn’t for her, and I completely understand.”

It's sad because Britney had a great vision for the Blackout era, but she lost control of herself and didn't get the Gimme More video she wanted and ****ed up this performance.
Apparently she was supposed to wear something over her outfit too... and there is a video on Youtube of the original choreography (which isn't too much different, but with more practice, it would have been great for the performance). And she fired her hairdresser the night before the performance and did her own hair
If only everything went according to plan with Criss Angel, the choreography, the hair, the outfit, etc. it would have actually been a decent performance. Le sigh.

I think I had read that originally in 2007! Why dig out all of this pretty old stale tea?
It could have been out of tis world, but sadly she wasn't there.

There's dozens of rumors regarding that night. Some say that she fired her hairdresser the day before and she decided to do her own hair (which I actually believe it's true because a similar thing happened when she was shooting the "3" music video. Other rumors say she was supposed to wear a leotard and minutes before the performance she changed to the bra and panties and her management argued with her and told her to go change to the performance outfit, but MTV producers said there was no time, that she had to get to the stage, and she had to stay with the bra and panties. Another rumor says she started doing tequila shots to simmer down the nerves. And another rumor, which I don't believe says that Justin Timberlake stopped by her dressing room to wish her a good luck and she got nervous.
But hey, I guess we'll never know what really happened that night.

Don't forget the hearing Sarah's jokes during rehearsals about calling her children mistakes made her upset.
I remember all of this. The Criss thing would have been a goddamn mess. Levitating? Making it seem like there 4 Britneys? Turning her into birds? Where's the time for performing the song and not being a circus puppet.. She was a disaster at the time, god forbid if that went on stage. Especially when she wasn't confirmed to perform until weeks before the show, if even that much before.
Had her hair been on point and a more flattering outfit, and less stage fright, what we got would've been better. Oh well though, still relevant today!

But that performance still an art to me, everything is so passion and moving. Idk why people think that's her worst performance.

The performance she gave strangely fits the lyrics. Gimme Gimme More. Gimme More. Gimme Gimme More.
That's exactly what we wanted her to give us. The fact that the performance is bad made it memorable/iconic so I guess all things worked out huh. I honestly like the Elvis song Trouble at the beginning intro.
