Promise is the second studio album by English group Sade. It was released in the United Kingdom on 16 November 1985 by Epic Records and in the United States on 21 December 1985 by Portrait Records.
The major hits from this album were "The Sweetest Taboo" and "Never as Good as the First Time", which reached number five and number 20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, respectively. Also, "Is It a Crime" was released as a single. While not as initially successful as their debut album, Diamond Life, Promise became the band's first album to top the albums chart in both the United Kingdom and the United States, helped by an appearance at Live Aid and a cameo in the film Absolute Beginners.
The title Promise comes from a letter from Sade Adu's father where he refers to the "promise of hope" to recover from cancer.
This album is pretty good but probably ranks among their lower quality albums. I still love a good amount of the tracks though.
I need to listen to some Sade album in full, I liked everything I heard from them so far
The Best of Sade is pretty much an essential. You can start there.
If you wanna go for a studio album, go for Diamond Life for their older sound or Lovers Rock for their new millennium sound.
I personally prefer their old jazzier sound.
Bleach is the debut studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released in June 1989 through the independent record label Sub Pop. The main recording sessions took place at Reciprocal Recording in Seattle, Washington between December 1988 and January 1989.
Bleach was well received by critics, but failed to chart in the U.S. upon its original release. The album was re-released internationally by Geffen Records in 1992 following the success of Nirvana's second album, Nevermind (1991). The re-release debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200, and peaked at number 33 on the UK Albums Chart and 34 on the Australian albums chart. In 2009 Sub Pop released a 20th anniversary edition of Bleach featuring a live recording of a Nirvana show in Portland, Oregon from 1990 as extra material. Since its release in 1989, Bleach has sold over 1.7 million units in the United States alone. It is Sub Pop's best-selling release to date.
I was surprised this didn't get more love here. Anyway I haven't heard it in probably over 10 years but it was never my favorite album of theirs.
Black Celebration is the fifth studio album by Depeche Mode. Released by Mute Records on 17 March 1986, it further cemented the darkening sound that was initially hinted towards on their albums Construction Time Again and Some Great Reward.
I haven't heard much of this album. I should though.
I stan hard for Nirvana but "Bleach" is meh to be honest.
"Nevermind" and especially "In Utero" are brilliant but their debut is just ok at best.
My favorite is "Love Buzz"
Not familiar at all with Cher or Sade.
