This argument annoys me more than any other argument Xbox stans make. You're assuming that everyone can just get the internet speeds that the Xbox One prefers you have for online gaming, but that's not the case. Not everyone in America, for example, has access to a stable broadband connection. Certain areas don't have the infrastructure necessary to support online gaming on a scale that Microsoft is trying to push with the Xbox One, and other rural areas still don't even have broadband internet at all. My current internet speed is 7.6 mbps...and that's one of the HIGHER possible speeds where I'm at currently. It's not just about having the money to be able to afford internet. It's about having the speeds needed to make the Xbox One thrive as a console.
For once, Microsoft is thinking TOO far ahead. They believe in their bubble that the world will be ready for a digital download-only gaming console within 1-2 years. The system-wide DRM has the damning side effect of restricting the way gamers play games, but it was primarily put in the Xbox One to prepare for a digital download future. The problem is that very few (and I mean you can count them on less than ten fingers) places on the planet have the internet capabilities needed to go DD-only right now. It's going to be YEARS and YEARS before digital downloading is efficient everywhere, not just in a few markets.
