but in a nut shell, I guess the answer to your question would be that faith in God and the tenets of xyz organized religion affect public policy and impact the lives of those who may not even share that faith. Belief in Santa Claus is not going to impact scientific research, or whether or not you're entitled to own slaves, or if a gay person is entitled to civil rights, or whether or not a woman can have an abortion, be granted access to higher education, drive a car, or leave the house without a veil.
