I'm from Turkey, the police attack has been going since the last week of May. People were protesting the destroy of a central park which will be replaced with a shopping centre and a symbolic Islamic building. The protest had started as a peaceful act, people just kind of started living in the park, reading books, singing songs, cooking etc but the police attacked with gas bomb and other chemical gas on 31 of May. Since then the police violence hasn't stopped and it is now not a ''park'' thing. It has become a protest against Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's social pressure, limiting the alcohol consumption, visiting the White House when a terrorist attack happened in his country (
) and many things since he was elected in 2002. He still doesn't give up his dictating and doesn't listen to the protestors and labelling them with different insultion everyday. The media does NOTHING to make people outside the big cities know about the violence that has been going on, so the elder and uneducated rural people know it as ''some communist or anarchist groups want to destroy everything''. It is only people protesting for democracy and freedom and it started as an environmental thing.
