Xbox One used game info + 24hr net requirements
Quote:
Microsoft has explained its full policies on Xbox One’s internet requirements, used game policies, transfers to friends and much more.
Always Online
As explained by Microsoft, “while a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.”
“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies."
Microsoft added "because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing."
Used Games and Giving Games to Friends
“We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.”
“Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.”
Xbox One will also allow you to give up to 10 family members access to "log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One." Similar to Xbox 360, "a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."

Way to skimp on the details? So it sounds like you can play a game at a friends house as long as you're logged into your Live account... which we already knew. Oh, and you can transfer your game to ONE person in its lifetime. The 30 day requirement sounds like it's trying to hinder selling it to someone for a lower price, as they buyer would have to wait until they're in your friends list for at least 30 days.
I wish they'd just confirm the fee thing once and for all

I think it's smart to try and stop used game selling. They will make a lot more $ that way.

"because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection" Microsoft actually said that...

Okay I re-read this:
“We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.”
And it sounds like there won't be a fee for used games. Instead, you can only transfer (give) it to ONE person, and you can't transfer it back to yourself. So basically, you can give/sell it to a family member or friend who you've had on your friends list for more than 30 days. I highly doubt anyone is going to buy a game that they have to wait 30 days to play just to save a little extra money.
This is going to flop.

That has to be poor wording on Microsoft's part (as always). I imagine what they meant when they said "and each game can only be given once" was that you can only lend your game to someone once, but that doesn't mean you can't lend the game to others...just that you can only do it with each person one time. Which is still kind of lame, but MUCH less lame than what many are assuming in this case.
The fact that you can't play a game if you've been offline for more than 24 hours, on the other hand, is garbage. Pure garbage. I'm not affected by this, but I know people who would be, and those people are basically being told that, if you buy an Xbox One, it will be a brick. That's ludicrous.

This makes me so mad honestly. Microsoft wants 100% control over their gamers. I loved the 360 but looks like I'll be getting a PS4. Microsoft is a mess.

Oh boy. Well I have to applaud for their tenacity with this, but I really want it to flop so these type of measures don't become considered acceptable by the industry. There has to be a better way than all this crap.

Kinda sad that Highwayuni requested a ban. She/He will be dragging Micro left and right, again

I can't believe they went from the ever so amazing 360 to this garbage. All these intricate details about online connection and used games is going to turn people off. I wanna let as many friends borrow my games and sell it to whoever I want with no strings attached.
If hope the horrible feedback this is getting changes there mind. Cuz if it doesn't ima jump on that PS4 and Nintendo bandwagon and bid farewell.

Microsoft is the new EA. It's getting "cool" to hate them. It's like they want to flop.

I doubt it, saying "each game can only be given once" is pretty clear. If they meant one person at a time, they would say something like "each game can only be lent to one person at a time"

Microsoft is also notorious for being unable to explain the simplest of features, so it's very possible that they didn't expand on that aspect. Even if what was said there was the truth, I'm left wondering if that just means I can get the game back once they're done. It says that the game can be given out once to someone, but there's no elaboration at all on if the person you gave it to can give it back to you.
Something that hasn't been expanded upon here that was finally confirmed: You won't be able to rent games (at least at launch). That's how I tend to play most of my games nowadays. Really upsetting.
