This is a modern day example of the continued discrimination Aboriginal peoples face within our society. She's graduating and wants to wear something spiritually relevant to her and her people, who exactly is she hurting?

I'm proud she stood up for her beliefs. Good for her.

This would have happened at my high school too, though, and we were mostly white. Some schools just have very, very strict policies on graduation attire. I would not call it discrimination UNLESS other people had things on their tassels/caps and she was singled out (per the definition of discrimination).

She should have run it by the administration first because apparently they grant exceptions (per the article).

I bet if she had not been of native descent and been a white student asking to wear a cross it would have been allowed. Because when it comes to Christianity, religious freedom is suddenly important. And it was so low to ban this guy from graduation because he had to work. These are examples for racism and class discrimination par excellence. What a sad world

i graduated from private school and we're mostly hispanic and they made one of our girls get a new cap for putting a "T" in gems on it.
