Hey guys, was just wondering if anyone can share some tips on job interviews. I have one coming up soon and I need help because I've never had a job before. I've had interviews before but I didn't have any luck. I'm generally a shy person so I need to know how to gain some confidence about it.

Dress appropriately, have good posture, and make eye contact at all times. Always be the first one to extend your hand for a handshake. Let them know your accomplishments but don't brag too much.

Even if you aren't outgoing act like you are. What is the job? It would be easier to give tips based on whet thae interview is for.

Relax. And also just try to be outgoing. I try to study the interviewer and see what kind of personality they have and go along with what they say, i.e. laughing and being serious when they are.

What kind of job is it?

-Dress professionally if it's an office type-job. If it's something like being a waiter or a retail clerk, dress casually but look very nice and groomed.

-If they ask you what your biggest weakness is, talk about something you struggled with in the past and then what you did to overcome it. Like "I used have a hard time concentrating, but then I did blah blah...". DON'T say something like "I work too hard".

-You'll probably get some questions like "Name a time when you had to juggle a lot of things at once, how did you manage it?" or "Name a time you were working with someone and you didn't get along, what did you do to fix it?". Have some stories ready ahead of time.

-Be nice and polite and smile a lot. If it's a customer service type job, think about a lot of scenarios you might encounter in the job. For example, an angry customer, a time when a lot of customers need help at once etc. Think about how you might manage those situations, you're likely going to be asked some questions about it.

That's all I can think of for now.

By the way, my interview horror story:

The interviewer was asking me a ton of questions and I was doing fine. Then he threw this question at me:

"You have a scale and 9 pennies. One penny is 0.1 grams heavier than the others. How do you find the heavier penny only using the scale twice?"

I pretty much froze up and it took a few minutes of talking it out before I figured out the answer. I was NOT expecting a question like that. I was so sure it was going to look bad for me, but I actually got the job!"

I'm sorry, but I need to know this now.

Just be yourself. Not the shy one. The one they can enjoy being around. You have it in you. Don't fake a version that you think they would dig. Interviewers are trained to spot a fake personality in contrast to sth that is genuine.
Best of luck. And remember being shy is something you can fix. But you have to step out of the comfort zone.

Take six pennies from the pack and put three on each side of the scale.

If they balance, you know the heavier penny must be in the remaining three pennies. Take two pennies from this pack and put one of each side of the scale. If one side is heavier than the other, you know that's the heavier penny. If they balance out, the heavier penny must be the one remaining penny that you never put on the scale.

If they don't balance, you know the heavier penny must be one of the three pennies on the heavier side. Using those three pennies, do the same thing as above.
