I'm not sayin i'm a reliable source or anything but this is a view from the streets if anyone wanna know more about it. and my english is not perfect so ..
In the beginning it was just a protect green/park situation. Cause they wanted to build an avm into a park by destroying the park. (Istanbul has like nearly 100 avms btw. Isn't it enough?)There was only 500 people at park max. When police started to attack people who protect park by staying at the park during the night - so the demolition team wont be able to ruin the park secretly - it just got out of control. Police startted to throwing gas bombs and catch up their tents that protectors stayin in so they no longer can stay at night.
When the news out at social media a loooott more people started to show up at the park to protect it. but police getting angrier and aggressive cause of they got order to not lettin anyone in the park and push them back. its been in that way since 3-4 days. more people shows up, police attack harder, use more gas and plastic bullets, jops etc and people keeps standin....
After that it just got another level. it was not just a protect-park thing anymore but stand against the police and the goverment who can attack its own people like that. it became country-wide. protests started at like 40-50 city at the same time and still happenin in that moment.
and when all those thins happening turkish media didnt show ANYTHING on ANYWHERE. Not a single tv channel showed or not a single paper wrote about it. When people fighting at streets there was a penguin documentary and fashion show on the channels. Media has been blocked completly. So the people started to using twitter/facebook and all the other social medias to spread the news to the world to get some attention. and it worked actually. worldwide trends was 10/10 turkish language at one point and cnn international,bbc etc published the news.
With more people know more people start to show up at streets to stand to their rights. But police not just didnt stand back but startted to attack more harder and still attacking harder to the people they got mission to protect in the first place when they signed up in that job. saw the ironi in there? yes thats exactly whats goin on. We're attackin by OUR police force. Not a foreign threat or anything. Our police attackin us by the order of goverment. A lot of deads/injuries/custodys happened in the process still happenin tho with every other minute. and it doesnt look gonna stop anytime soon with that not-slowing more-attacking behavior.
There are so many videos and photos on the internet u can easily find out to look and watch to get an image of whats goin on.
Turkey was probably the most modern " democracy" in the middle east.
