To me, VVV would not have beeb controversial enough. It would have been like Superbass 2.0. Better in quality but seen as safe and Nicki is not safe.
Pound the alarm would have received the necessary backlash and VVV would have been a hit but yawn. Nicki NEEDED to endure backlash at this moment and get it out of the GPs system. Safe would have kept her in the back.
That said VVV was a PERFECT summer pop single (i'm not getting into the urban single line up);
