Official: New English Album in the works!

Utada has updated her blog with a new English message, this time from New York City. She confirms what we’ve all been speculating, that she will soon begin working on her much anticipated 2nd English album! She mentions meeting up with producers and track-makers, so it looks like she may be opening up to the idea of letting others take over some of the production work on her 2nd album. Exciting!

Anyways, I read her blog the other nite and I'm stoked too!!! haha, I thought "Exodus" was great and the little PR it recieved killed it, but with new PR done for foreign artists like Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, KT Tunstall, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Regina Spektor, I'm sure she'll do better this time, especially with how well Timbaland produced tracks have been doing lately.

Her first English album went completely ignored and at the time i thought it was completely stupid too (i.e lyrics like "I'm easy breezy, Japanesy" are so dumb and offensive that even the Harajuku girls wouldn't be caught dead singing them). But later on I learned more about Utada and I actually gained quite a bit of respect for her. She's a wonderful lyricist even though I don't quite care for her music or singing all that much. Unfortunately, Asian artists have never really been able to break into the US market. You really can't compare her to the UK acts you mentioned or even Shakira, Paulina Rubio, Ricky Martin etc. because history has proven that Latin crossovers and British invasions happen in the US on a regular basis. Can anyone really name any majorly succesful Asian artists here in the states? I wish her well but I highly doubt her next album is going to have any impact here.

"Easy Breezy" was such a horrible single choice. I think they tried to be "different", and failed horribly. That song is like her worst ever. They should've released "Exodus '04" --> "The Workout" ---> "Let Me Give You My Love" ---> and Tippy Toe in the US

Everyone rags hard on "Easy Breezy," but come on, that was the only mainstream single on their, with maybe the exception of "Let Me Give You My Love." It had a good video and catchy enough lyrics to side with most of shallow America. Decent choice to me, but with no PR.

^I will keep my fingers crossed for Utada because I really would like to see some Asian singers break into the US market. I was just stating that the odds are not in her favor, that's all. But I think it's only fair that Utada becomes popular here in the US considering all of the successful US imports we have sent over to Japan over the years--she deserves a shot.

It's the language barrier. Most Asian artists don't speak English well and Utada is the only with top honors success (the most successful female artists over there) in Asia, who was born here and therefore has no accent. She's gonna have to lose a little weight, grow her hair out, and add a little sex appeal to be really successful though.
