The trainwreck that is "American Idol" continues to derail.
The latest news surrounding TV's once-biggest show is that some early dates on the "American Idol Live!" tour have been pulled including the tour opening date June 29 in St. Louis at Chaifetz Arena.
A statement on the Chaifetz Arena website reads:
"Production rehearsals have been pushed by a couple of weeks which unfortunately affects some of the early dates on the tour itinerary. The 'American Idol Live!' concert scheduled for June 29 at Chaifetz Arena has been canceled. All orders will be returned to the credit card of purchase. If you do not receive a refund or have further questions, contact MetroTix at 314-534-1111. For cash transactions, tickets can be returned to the Chaifetz Arena box office to receive a refund. The 'American Idol Live!' tour now begins on July 19 in Kent, WA and ends in Nashville on August 31."
Among the cities affected are Las Vegas, Tulsa, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Rosemont and more.
The news is a huge bummer for St. Louis singer Curtis Finch Jr., a top ten finalist who was looking forward to the tour opening in his hometown.
In a statement, he told the Post-Dispatch: "The news of AEG Live and 19 Entertainment cutting St. Louis from the 'American Idol Live!' tour is extremely saddening to me. I can't thank St Louis enough for the love and support you have shown and doing that on stage June 29th was going to be epic for me. With that said, as I journey forward in my musical career I look forward to not only your continued support but the chance to perform live for you right here in the gateway city! Great things are coming! This is just a small bump on the road."
The tour news comes after a string of disappointing news from the "Idol" camp.
Thursday, new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj both unsurprisingly announced their exits from the show after one season. Carey's judging stint was seen as largely nonsensical, while Minaj was viewed as abrasive to the show's core audience of older viewers.
The on screen bickering and tension between the two women was considered distracting.
Randy Jackson, a judge since the show's inception, left at the end of the just-ended season. New judge Keith Urban has not announced his plans yet.
Candice Glover, the show's new winner, saw sales of her single "I Am Beautiful" tank; she posted the worst-ever first week sales of any "Idol" winner. Her album "Music Speaks" is due July 16.
Last season's season finale was the least-watched "Idol" finale yet, coinciding with the show's continued downward spiraling of ratings.
And Fox executive Mike Darnell, who oversaw the show from the beginning, announced last week he was leaving Fox, though he said it had nothing to do with "Idol."
A major reboot of the show is rumored.
