Well, it could be edited...I don't know. But, yeah the race has a small part in it and how some people see it. I personally don't think R&B (not to the greatest extent) or Pop when I hear it though.
Well the song is more Pop than R&B regardless of the sample. I think it has more with her being a Pop artist than her being white. Wiki has "Blurred Lines" listed under R&B, Disco, and Hip-Hop because Robin Thicke himself is credited as an R&B artist. For someone like Justin Timberlake, his music will always be categorized as Pop & R&B because that's who he is as an artist.
Then again, her fans could've edited that, so it might not even matter :michael

To me, The Way is a pop song with strong R&B influences.
The entire package (Ariana's voice, the lyrics, the rap, the production) reads like a mix of R&B and bubblegum pop. It should at the very least be classified as Pop/R&B.
