No, unless you want crime rates to rise. Some people need to feed their families and will do what they can to accomplish that. Some people are disabled and cannot get out and work. Their income cannot cover shelter., transportation, utilities, and food. Let alone healthcare, insurance, and other expenses. They don't want food stamp, they need it.
I do think, however, that there should be more stipulations. There are too many able body people sitting on their butts receiving help every month who can be out providing a service and stimulating the economy. People fall on hard times. So I think they should be given food stamps for a specific margin and have enough time to get themselves together. It should be fitting for the specific scenario.
And as a Mexican-American, I know that Mexico comment in completely false. Many parts of the country thrive while others struggle every day, just like here. The economy in Mexico is in shambles right now, specifically in well populated areas where crime is very high.
