The "4" album (2011) had many throwback jams on it. "4" had a massive influence on the urban community producing 4 top 10 hits on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. Now many throwback jams are appearing popular such as Bruno Mars "Treasure", Justin Timberlake's "Suit And Tie", Chris Browns "Fine China" and on to Robin Thicks "Blurred Lines".
That album inspired not a single damn thing. It flopped hard nnow that Hive is trying to make it seem like it was a turning point album. Try again. Bloop!
Oh no. I see where this is going, now the Hive is trying to spin the failure of 4 (no hits and a 70% decrease in sales from I Am.. IS a failure) into having been an "influential" album that has suddenly shaped the sound of Top 40.
No sir. No ma'am. 4 had Run the World, a tired Diplo production that flopped, Best Thing I Never Had, a tired Babyface production that flopped, Love on Top was NOT disco and funk which is what is smashing now. The rest of the songs were contemporary urban tracks with production from Kanye, the people who work with Frank ocean, etc.
And please tell me WHY others would try to emulate an album that 1) does not sound like what's smashing now so this thread makes no sense to begin with and 2) had no hit singles and represented a massive decrease in sales for its artist.
