Nirvana was not relevant only for one year when their music and legacy is obviously relevant even today.
I can write an essay about Nirvanas impact, past and present, but I will not bother myself with it, because
1, many things were already stated in this thread
2, who really wants to know can easily find the receipts on net or by listening to alternative music
3, its just useless to talk about music and art with close minded and/or ignorant people.
