SUITLAND, Md. -
Prince George’s County Police have arrested a Suitland man for abusing a 2-year-old boy left in his care.
Police say 26-year-old Clifton Edward Bernard admitted to the assault when officers arrived at his Swann Road home to investigate the report of an unresponsive child.
The two-year-old was hospitalized and remains in critical condition. The boy is being treated for several injuries including head trauma.
Bernard, who is in a relationship with the child’s biological mother, has been charged with attempted murder, first and second degree child abuse as well as first and second degree assault.
