The rapper had been trailing the announcement all day on Twitter to his millions of followers, first writing "How many of y'all out there are Downton Abbey fans?" followed by "I'm going to be making a big announcement in the next hour-im excited for yall to hear!" He then wrote: "I have to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows- and thats why Im so excited today @DowntonAbbey".
The rapper has previous acting experience, appearing in episodes of Hawaii Five-0 and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and also starring in the TV version of the Broadway play A Raisin In The Sun in 2008.
P Diddy was recently named the richest star in the hip hop world by Forbes. The rapper - real name Sean Combs - kept hold of the Number One spot on the list, thanks to his huge $580 million (£382 million) fortune.
