The hype behind the film franchise fizzled out prematurely, which doesn't bode well. If the generation who grew up with it lost interest, the likelihood of it appealing beyond isn't high. That doesn't often happen even with beloved films. Eye-candy is all it really offers, and the girls in 10+ years time will fancy new guys.
In terms of the actual books, I expect mothers who read it will pass it on to their daughters...but their interest will depend on how 'cool' vampires/werewolves are. They aren't a well respected series, so they probably won't be recommended in the same way Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc. are.
