It's not even just that. Many of these independent music fans subscribe to the huge misconception that mainstream artists lack musical and artistic integrity because of their manufactured nature. That couldn't be father from the truth.

Well for sometime now "radio" has had a bad rep but there is more that probably factors in to this way of thinking. Now-a-days there are so many artists out there that having your own little secret band or indie artist that not that many people now about is a privilege. And when these artists go big or at least make it to radio they run the risk of a hanful of different things (overexposure,change of sound to become more radio friendly, other artists trying to duplicate their sound and make it trendy and once it becomes a trend it'll just fade to the background as soon as the duplicates come which would then make it unfortunately "generic") . So its not that they dont want that specific artist to not be succesful its just they dont the negative connotations that come with being mainstream.

Very well said. I've never understood the logic of people who don't want their favorite musicians to be popular. It's as if they have a weird obsession and are unwilling to share them with other people.

I understand what you're saying, but that seems to stem from a place of insecurity if your (not you, just in general) biggest concern is worrying about the negative connotations that come with being mainstream instead of actually enjoying the music for what it is.
