Instead, Carey has offered delicate critical morsels of technical advice, which, though great for the contestants, probably frustrates producers, who had hoped she’d show more personality and engage Minaj more. To her credit it must be tough for her ego to watch Minaj emerge as the witty, firecracker of the bunch, despite having far less of a meaty resume than that of any of the other judges. Not to mention, Lopez got to be Queen Diva for two years, and producers courted Carey under the same pretense.

How was Mariah's long boring speeches HELPING THEM and connecting with them such as "I saw you were nervous a little before, just remain calm because you have a voice" worse than Nicki's "OH EM GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I FELT LIKE I WAS AT UR SHOW, N I JUST LOVE YOU IM UR BIGGEST FAN HONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

She's always critique on wardrobe in addition to performance critiques. Nicki has other stanbases bothered I see...

Honestly i think Nicki being placed as a judge actually made Mariah more useful than she was?
I feel like she sometimes feels the need to compete with Nicki's critique since all the critics agree she is the better judge.
So i see her just going on and on about adlibs and other random stuff so she can come off as useful.

My brother said the same thing, but I just don't see how Nicki was any better. Her critique was most likely about image, and she was LOUD.

I think she gives great advice on the vocal stuff and musically. Nicki can do the wardrobe advices, leave the vocal technical advice to a pro.

This is all that matters, Mariah is a singer, songwriter, and producer, she was giving us all three of those roles on the show with her comments about the contestants. Everyone had their standards up too high because they thought we would be getting "crazy" Mariah but instead she showed up, did the job, and that's what she was hired to do. On another note, it amazes me that the press keeps acting like J. Lo was such a great judge, I found her judging to be worse than Nicki's.
