There's a cultural bias, definitely, but what they said is also true to a degree. I don't think other local stations (as opposed to national cable news outlets) devoted such intense 24/7 coverage to the marathon bombing and subsequent manhunt as they did here in Massachusetts.
But incidents in the UK are definitely more likely to get reported about here. Idk if the royal wedding is the best example because the English monarchy is so global/iconic and has always had such huge visibility, but the subway bombings back in 2005 were a pretty big story.
