I think including streaming is just necessary to reflect the change of the industry.

However, I would wish the weightage of streaming in the total ccore (Billboard) and certification (RIAA) to be less that it is now.

No. The Billboard etc rule changing is ruining things, not streaming itself (although I think BB rule is accurate). Spotify is genius and people just don't wanna buy music. If it wasn't for streaming people would just illegally download it.

Streaming is good for something like Billboard, I think with platforms like Spotify, Rhapsody, and so on, show a good representation of what is popular right now. Since its only logical that what is being played so much is obviously a good for being the #1 song.

Streaming is bad when they include Youtube videos into the mix, and when the RIAA gives certifications for it. Suddenly Platinum and Diamond are just things in the past. It gives much less merit to something when people stream it and not actually buy it.

Adele pretty much proved that people are still here to buy music, as has Justin Timberlake, and Taylor Swift who sold over a million copies in one week.

The only positive I see it being is for Billboard, the RIAA shouldn't be certifying albums or singles on streaming, it just seems so cheap. Suddenly Bad Romance being Diamond because of streaming just sounds like....the faux fur of the music industry.

But Bad Romance was actually a big song, equally balancing its certification with sales and streaming. Baby is faux with its Diamond certification considering the song only sold 3M digital copies and wasnt as big as Bad Romance.

But really, certifications aren't much to brag about anymore.

The hard thing I have with streaming added to the big picture, is that streaming has still too many flaws. Youtube like already said because also a lot of haters can just dislike it but yet play it, which makes it no representation of the reality. But also I have a feeling that it will lead to a rampage.

We already had soemthing like Gangname Style going global and that's fine, since we also ha dthe Macarena and stuff through the years. But what if all streaming counts and people are gonna make more and more crazy gimmicks, which will just be streamed for the sake of it being fun, instead of it being streamed because of it actually being worth it.

I think streaming is too uncontroleable at this moment to count it. There needs to be a more fair system.

The music Industry indeed needs to relaunch and go on with it's time. But there is still potential in CD's and digital downloads, along with streaming There just needs to come for an environment where they can co-excist and influence each other in a positive way,

It's called evolution. It was an inevitability more than anything, as streaming is playing a much larger role than, I think, any of us realize in the way that we are able to obtain music. If anything, it's on the labels to get larger deals with the streaming outlets to offset any potential losses from other avenues.
