I've started to notice that America is beginning to produce more shows with 10 to 13 episodes a season rather than the standard 24 episodes and the UK goes even further with 6 episode series

And I notice myself watching more shows with short seasons, but I always have to wait a year for them to return. So which do you previous 24 episode seasons with ok filler episodes but less wait or short seasons with amazing episodes but a long wait in between seasons?

it depends on the show really, but I prefer shorter seasons.

Most of my favorite TV shows are in the short season format. I enjoy them it's just the wait that kills me.

Take BBC's Sherlock for instance. It's been over a year since the last episode and they're not even done filming episode 2 yet. The wait is unbearable.

Look at Revenge, such a great series but the 22-ep format (probably) killed it The 1st season was great but now it went downhill a little bit...
For some series is better 13-ep and for some 22-ep. Comedies should have had 24-ep tho, like Friends, I'm so glad they have more eps

Although I don't know why do such series with 13-ep format because the main purpose of doing a TV Series is sell it to syndication which TV series must have at least 88 eps for and with 13 eps per season...

For most quality TV shows, shorter are seasons are better because then every episode has to be relevant or insightful in some way.

For some reason, I like short seasons better. I just hate the fact that there's just too much to cover like backstories, that you begin to ask yourself if the show is doing well enough to merit another season renewal.

Longer seasons usually have more filler and usually, you don't know if it's relevant to the plot so it's easier to skip an episode if a preview didn't have that much impact on you. it's just easier to lose interest on this kind of show. Having a longer season means the tv show is doing great though.

I prefer longer seasons

Comedies schould be longer (20-24 epsidodes)
And dramas can/should be shorter (12-13 episodes)
Just look at Homeland.

Shorter seasons allow for more consistent storylines imo. Shows with much longer seasons are often only so long because the network wants to capitalize on a show's popularity and it becomes harder to make 22 episodes consistently great.

All the great shows have shorter seasons( Breaking Bad, True Blood, Dexter, Mad Men, Homeland, American Horror Story, Shameless, The Newsroom etc etc... ) So I'd like Dramas to have shorter seasons & comedies can have them longer

Shorter seasons, quality over quantity.

Short seasons but it depends on the show. AHS is perfect for short seasons and Revenge would benefit from them (more definite storyline), but SVU is better for longer seasons because each episode has a different storyline and we get tons of episodes.

Shorter might actually be better. I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy because it is so drawn out.
