I think people are overreacting. They don't make these awards for our following pleasure, but for business reasons.

Downloads may still be relatively high now, but they have peaked, and the end is coming sooner than later, and streams will overtake it.

Yeah, it would be nice to see a breakdown of these certs, to see how much a song was downloaded and how much it was streamed, but at the least, the purpose of this makes sense

Mess at people making such a big deal about radio accomplishments and then turning around to treat streaming like the red-headed step-child of the charts.

It's not like RIAA's singles certifications were every really up to date for the majority of artists, and you'll still have the sales data to compare by that measure alone (which people will do ofc).
