This is a late (and rather long) reply to a short post, but...
I see Nicki's alter egos less as characters and more of the mindsets Nicki was in during the making of the album and her creative direction.
The Barbie doll is honestly something that is associated with perfection (though, obviously, society is discouraging this idea) and while she does wear suggestive clothing and move in suggestive positions, she for the most part has a clean image. The Pink Friday era was exactly that; Nicki strove for perfection in making the album and realized she could not be overly sexual at first and succeed as her foremothers did, most notably Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown, because the times had changed and a female rapper had not been "accepted" by the general public for quite some time. (Noted: The Barbie doll has constantly changed over time thus reflecting the times in which it is being sold in and therefore it remains a top seller. More than likely a goal of Nicki's.)
Roman is crazy and carefree therefore he comes off as a character Nicki has created who likes to have fun. Roman (arguably) appeared twice on Pink Friday on Roman's Revenge and Did It On 'Em, thus standing out among the more personal and empowering songs. The rap tracks on RR have something about them that makes me want to get in someone's face, y'know? The pop tracks even do that for me because they are loud and dance-y just like Roman. There is obviously a lack of strong vulnerable tracks on RR, but that reflects Roman and how Nicki felt. Nicki has said that she felt that she was "too revealing" and "too emotional" with Pink Friday and therefore she felt that the public did not want too much of that again. Dance pop and aligning with RedOne was a smart move from a creative stand point because it helped with the mood of the album. Though, certain tracks (while good) do throw the album off a bit like Champion.
Who knows with Da Kid... Or whether it will be a reflection on how the third album will be... Nicki's outfits have become more simple possibly meaning we might get a simple yet stunning album next and Da Kid gives me the vibes of someone who has been wronged and is sick of it (possibly meaning we might get the female equivalent to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy?).
haha sorry i probably sound insane i get that a lot because i do a lot of speculating and this has been on my mind ever since nicki revealed the title of her second album. a lot of my speculation (especially the last part lol i know kanye fans or maybe even some barbz doubt nicki could put out a MBDTF but i think she can) tends to just be me pouring out my feels for nicki aaah
this is a long post and i know y'all regulars always keep it short and cute oop
