When you buy a Macklemore song or album on i-tunes, 80% of the profit goes to their pockets. A regular artist who is signed to a label does not even get 10% of that.

No, I know that but at the same time, as their careers get bigger, it'll likely be too much at some point to manage everything themselves and usually that's where labels come in handy. They can do it now but as time goes on, they'll probably need label support, etc.

It's wise of them to get massive now and when/if they do sign with a label, they basically tell them how it'll be (like he mentions). Plus their shows constantly sell out and they'll make shitloads of money just by doing that.
