Song Of The Year
Selena Gomez with “Dreaming” - An explosive pop song produced by Bloodshy & Avant. It has african influences that the average ear wouldn’t hear. Written solely by Selena Gomez, it explores the fun side of Fantasy and is an anthem. It puts everyone in a good mood, whether black, white, male and/or female.
Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber with “Come & Get It” - Much like Dreaming, it’s an explosive song with bollywood, tribal, and dubstep influences. A collab between the two biggest young icons in the game that happened to go #1.
Album Of The Year
Selena Gomez with “Fantasy” - With country, hip-hop, r&b, middle eastern, tribal, dubstep, bollywood and african influences, it’s certainly a diverse album. It’s one of the most cohesive and solid albums we’ve seen in a long times. A great album that’s spawned 2 #1 singles.
Best Music Video
Selena Gomez with “The Last Time” - A very Britney-esque video, that happens to feature a Britney sample from the ITZ era, that’s sensual and simple. This video quickly showed the world that Selena Gomez was no little kid.
Best Pop Song
Selena Gomez with “Dreaming” - A classic pop song. Makes everyone wanna get up and dance. It’s a song everyone can relate too. More info above.
Selena Gomez with “Crazy” - While it may just be an album track, it shouldn’t be ignored. Written with the legendary Reba McEntire and produced by Ryan Tedder, it’s pure pop yet it has that country twang. It’s a very relatable song about strength and perseverance, but not cheesy like most of those types of sounds are.
Best Pop Album
Selena Gomez with “Fantasy” - With all it’s influences from different genres, it still comes out too a full, classic, beautiful pop sound. With Pharell’s help throughout the way, it was clear that this album would be full of seductively produced and cleverly intricate and subtle lyrics. Great hooks, sexy melodies and surely sticks too the concept of “Fantasy”.
Best Hip-Hop Song
French Montana, Nicki Minaj & Selena Gomez with “Freaks” - A rather X-Rated song, it pulls in the adult market, and even gets the kids market, since kids usually love things they shouldn’t. With a rapper, a female rapper, and a male rapper, it pulls in the female market, but still has that masculinity to get the guys too. It also pulls in different age ranges and races. Also, it features some of Selena’s most clever lyricsism. One of the lines being “abs to forehead” which is a code for oral sex.
Selena Gomez, Jay-Z & Kanye West with “Hate the Bitch” - A just for fun song that takes on enemies and lessors. It’s cause quite a bit of controversy with Selena being hailed as a “disrespectful bitch” for the song.
Best Duo/Group Song
Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber with “Come & Get It” - The #1 hit that’s suggestive without being too upfront. Features bollywood, tribal and dubstep influences. More info above.
Best Live Peformance
Selena Gomez with “MTV’s Summer Nights” - Performing on a blocked off New York street, she put on a mini-concert of 10 songs. She brought a guy up on stage, a little kid whose parents had died, and then for the finale went out into the crow to throw glitter, and dance and sing with the fans. Also gave acoustic performances and really showed off her vocals.
Selena Gomez with “GMA” - Also performed on a blocked off street and arguably the best performance of her career, she utilized technology and interacted with on screen animals, and then brought african dancers on stage too prepare the audience for the wild animals (including the lion that she RODE). She then danced her VERY up-beat routine blind folded and blasted confetti everywhere. A big party on the street!
