Samantha Mumba lands $1million to star in Hollywood musical
Quote:
After falling off the radar for a few years former pop star and actress Samantha Mumba is set for the big time once again.
The Irish beauty has landed a $1 million deal to star in a big Hollywood film musical that is said to be as big as Les Miserables.
The 30-year-old, who has been living in LA since she her fledgling singing career faltered in 2000, revealed to friends at a party last week that all her efforts and hard work have finally paid off.
The Gotta Tell You singer was at the launch party for dance artist Stacey Jackson's album, Live It Up, when she revealed to friends the good news.
A close friend said: 'She was absolutely thrilled that she had landed a lead role in a big budget Hollywood musical.
'She had been sworn to secrecy over what the film was but said it was going to be as big budget as Les Miserables.
'After the success of Les Mis at the box office Hollywood producers have been keen to follow it up and plans for the next big musical production are set to include Samantha.'
The source continued: 'She has got the role and has signed contracts but has been told she has to wait for the film company to make the official announcement.
'Filming will start later this year for the multi million dollar film.'
There are very few blockbuster musicals that would rival Les Mis in scale.
My first reaction was Wicked, but Samantha would be an incredibly bizarre choice for Elphaba. My next thought was some sort of trippy live action film adaption of The Lion King musical with her as Nala, but that'd be a very odd move. It has been a huge money maker though, and studios love the ease of remakes.
ETA: Wait, is there still going to be that "black Annie" film? She could play Grace (Mr. Warbucks' assistant)?
I have waited for a new album from her since her 2nd was cancelled in 2002, and have been disappointed time after time when rumors of new singles and albums coming out (Personalities, anyone?)... Could the time be now finally? Sam, please don't **** it up this time... If this movie does well, her singing career could have a revival.
Apparently she's very lazy and delusional. She was on some reality show called your "Get Your Act Together with Harvey Goldsmith" and they were trying to get her career back. She didn't show up to half of the meetings with the guy and she seemed to be under the impression that she was some huge star just because she had two hit songs. Maybe she finally had a reality check.
