I'm pretty sure that they said on the NPR page that the songs would be in the film (they specifically talked about will.i.am's and Fergie's songs being used at the big party). I think it's cool. The 20's theme is still there, but with a modern and exciting twist. And some of the songs will really lend themselves to the score, especially the Nero song. The Hunger Games wasn't a movie where music could really be used, but this is supposed to be flashy.

You don't get Jay-Z to curate a soundtrack for a movie and then not use said soundtrack in the movie.

The music idea is quite clever in my opinion,joining past and present through a universal medium.

My favourite soundtrack of all time by far

There are some really good moments on the album (Jack White, The xx, Fergie/Q-Tip, Beyoncé/André) and then some really bad moments (will.i.am, Gotye) that kind of ruin it for me. "Heart's a Mess" is pretty much "Somebody I Used To Know" minus Kimbra.

Hopefully the movie isn't as messy.
