Contrary to what you're implying, the commercial does not accurately represent the racial makeup of the prison population. In addition to that, if you're going to mention accurate portrayals of criminals, there are other factors that contribute to the issue, such as the count of which type of people commit certain crimes, and even varying details of those crimes. Aside from that, this is not a political endeavor to resolve the problem of the black prison population, nor is it media that requires a factual representational of the quantity of each race in prison, so we won't pretend that it is either. Mass media should always attempt to be responsible (which is sometimes more important than being factually accurate,
not that is has to be one or the other) as well as accurate, especially when touching on sensitive subjects. When some media is fiction that doesn't require statistic or factual accuracy at all (especially that which would clash with responsible portrays of sensitive subjects), such as this commercial which is about selling a bottle of soda, then there is no excuse not to be completely responsible. This commercial was intended to cause controversy all along using racism and mockeries of battered women. They never expected this to fly or air on national television.
