Clearly people like her music. It's well known she can't sing or perform live very well anymore, so I think the fact that people still like and buy her music is a testament to her music not being too generic.

I agree, she definitely does not release very risky music (nor does she intentionally seek to do so in what could be described to be a gimmicky manner). You are correct, she does not perform as she once did and is lackluster on stage when compared to others. But is it relevant to point this out? Do you think that this matters to the average listener? Would Rihanna's music, for example, sell if it truly relied on the quality of the performance? I don't think so.

Like above posters said, her most generic album is Femme Fatale. The only generic songs on there are TTWE (although widely acclaimed), Drop Dead Beautiful, SIWAK (maybe), Trouble For Me, Gasoline & Up N Down. Not even half the album.
EDIT: Actually, FF isn't her most generic. It's probably BOMT.

Change the title too "Why Do People Call Britney Generic" so this stays open. I know you wanted that hit thread, but sis...

Femme Fatale is pretty generic, but not entirely. Britney, In The Zone, and Blackout are not generic. I'd say OIDIA and Circus are her most generic albums, but overall she is not generic.

I think it matters to an extent. Britney has had some horrific blunders (the 2007 mess, the Billboard Music Awards, others). I think other artists (maybe not so recently) have suffered because of their performance quality or maybe even a single terrible performance. You cite Rihanna, who isn't the best performer, but she's at least decent and maybe even improving recently. I think the fact that people still dig Brit's music proves that it's catchy and always a little bit different than most things out there.

I wouldn't even call Till the World Ends generic.
Firstly, it has a unusual structure. The instrumental/beat, "oh oh oh oh", slow chorus and minimalistic chorus, unpredictable bridge, etc. all make this song quite unique

Rofl I wasn't shading her at all. Did I lie? Do people still think she sings live and does it well? I'm saying that despite everyone knows this, people still like and buy her music, which is a testament to her not being as generic as most other artists. If anything it was a compliment
It's possible to be honest without shading someone, you know. Well, maybe not on ATRL.

Circus isn't her most generic album.
I mean the only generic songs there are Circus, If You Seek Amy.. and I can't even think of any else.

Britney is not generic at all. Only some of her album tracks from Circus and Femme Fatale are generic, but all of the pop girls have some songs like that.

Of course it'll seem generic two years after it's been released when tons of songs have been made to sound like it, but if we think of the time of release, it actually isn't very generic.

No the only albums that are generic to me are her first three and femme fatale (with some not all song). And the onyl song above that is generic to me is TTWE. Overprotected if anything is ****** and hasn't aged well rather than generic
