Singer Fergie has slammed Britney Spears' critics following her drab comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The Black Eyed Peas star insisted that the critics should leave her alone.
She believes that Spears and her troubled actress pal Lindsay Lohan, are still precarious targets for the media despite their consistent efforts of seeking help for their troubles.
"They're young. Leave them alone. If they want to get better, they're going to get better on their own. If somebody is going to change, they have to want to do it themselves," Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
Fergie is highly worried that critics are making so much of fuss over the young stars.
"I think it is really unfair to them when they are trying to get help. We're all watching as a nation and commenting day by day on their rehabilitation. It's not fair," she commented.
"You're supposed to have a sanctuary, a place where you can go and not be pressured every day." she further said.
Im starting to feel that Fergie is going to be bigger than Britney (single-wise in America). I mean Fergie's had 3 #1 hits in America with one solo studio album, while Britney has had one in her entire career!
^it's not about #1. it's about if ppl will remember the song and album sales. Britney hasn't had a straight up top 40 hit single discography, but everyone knows her songs, whether they flop or not, add on Britney took a break right before digital charts began to count towards the Hot 100.
and remember that digital sales didn't come in till a few years back... so it was basically airplay that mattered for the HOT100 .... now a days all u need is a lot of downloads to achieve # 1 ... (am i right...????)

but airplay is still very important you usually need to sell 100K in digital downloads in order to get into the top 10, but you quickly fall of if you have no airplay.
